It was Ash with his worst traits at peak capacity. Not hating or anything because AG's job with Ash was making him more humble and down to earth. It was part of his development in that season. In DP despite also bickering with Dawn every now and then, he was more of a model to her. Overall his relationship with Dawn was better because we had an Ash who was no longer an asshole or newbie and thus they both could support each other.
