I'm not a fan of megas but this one is the most incomprehensible to me. I get the whole automaton and assault mode, "full" soul-heart, etc, but why is that a mega? Plenty of Pokemon have different modes like zenith Marshadow, full moon Lunala, drive Miraidon, but those are just forms. Why limit Magearna's mega to be the equivalent of a form change? I know the same could be said for many, if not all, megas but in this case it just feels so inconsequential. Again, I get the concept, I get the reference, I just don't get the intention or the appeal. I could look at any mega, even the worst and I could see how a little kid would lose their mind over it and think it's the coolest thing ever. I don't even think mega Magearna is bad or ugly, it's just so dull and inconsequential that I can't imagine anybody being excited about it. I see all the different parts of its design being incorporated, the only thing I find as a saving grace is that I can see it transform (Transformers' style) into its mega. If they do an intricate animation when it transforms and not an anime-style 'glow' it would get some points from me even if that still keeps it in the realm of a form change and not a mega.
tldr: I ramble, the design just falls flat for me.
