I'm gonna save my stardust and not worry about gyms because they're too easy to lose. My buddies and I had a gym up to level 8 with all 1500+CP and literally 1 dude sat there and slowly whittled it down with what we learned later to be a team of six 7-800cp pokes. We talked to the guy and he said it was tough but he had like 50 revives and an ass load of potions to blow so he just went for it. And we're not butthurt tryhard sperglords so we congradulated team Mistake on their valiant win against the best local Valor gym.
So what I do now is just take the 3 local gyms for my 1500 dust and 30 coins because no matter how well you level a gym it's gonna get beat, slowly but surely.
