Do you WANT your linear adventure through a small comfy region dragged out to several hours with bad dialogue
forced backtracking
broken-bridge HM/NPC BS
textbox after textbox of inane bullshit about evil teams that will mwa-ha-ha destroy the world
and the plucky young real-main-characters basically stealing the starring role from you in every single IDENTICAL playthrough of a game?
I can't stand that stuff. It makes it feel like my own personal adventure, the route I want to take through a world, is being written for me by an aggressive Dungeon Master who INSISTS I take his exact route at his exact speed with only his choice of pokemons.
I can beat Fallout NV quickly if I bypass whatever I don't feel like doing that day, because there is no wall of dancing fucking clowns in the way of New Vegas blocking my path until I help the spaceship ghouls and deal with Benny's Khans and talk to Boone about his wife.
I can collect whatever item I want if I know where it is. No artificial progress gates.
Sure you need to complete that solar tower quest a certain way to unlock the giant solar laser gun, but that's the thing, it's something you earn. Cut, Rock Smash, why should they be locked behind walls when they're mandatory for exploring all the world AND inherently compromise my teambuilding choices whenever the developer/romhacker didn't think to fix that problem or hack a game where it was fixed?
Sure, Fallout NV avoids level scaling because it's not a game about killing/catching one of everything in your own time like Pokemon sometimes is.
But who would look at FNV and say "Ew, freedom and efficiency! Get that good shit away from me, before it reminds me what freedom feels like and harms my ability to enjoy replaying FireRed for the fifth time this week!"?
