chanarchive ;_;7In answer to OP, as long as the other species is written as being capable of human-equivalent decision making/planning and the actual relationship isn't an abusive one, I don't mind it. It still shouldn't be shoehorned into the story for its own sake, though.
In pokemon I feel pretty much the same way about it. I think romantic and/or sexual relationships could happen, and that'd be ok in some cases, but there's potential for abusive or unhealthy relationships that would need to be worked around. A relationship between a trainer and a pokemon (or even just an ordinary guy who keeps a pokemon around for companionship or work or something) that was not sexual or romantic initially but ended up becoming so - with proper consent from both parties - would be alright in my book.
Also, I never ended up playing Mass Effect even after I bought 1 and 2. They're still just sitting somewhere in my backlog. I think what I saw of the ME3 disaster killed my drive to play them.
