Game freak was, is and will always be incompetent.
With that out of the way, their sprites in gen 3 were alright, goodish in 4, good in 5.
However to get there it took them a lot of practice and games, by gen 1 they already had 8 years of experience in sprites.
3D is harder and more expensive, pre XY they had almost zero experience with models.
And it's not like the models themselves are even bad, it's how they used them/the coloring.
I actually fully believe they will get better at it with time because it's a learned craft, among their stupidity and full on retardation, the one thing I can believe in is their ability to improve on their 3D skills over time.
