With only six episodes in between his victory over Fantina and his victory over Byron, I think this is the shortest intermission in between Gym battles Ash has had since the OS (without checking, Brock and Misty being two episodes apart has got to be the quickest overall). The only one I can think of that may be shorter is Ash's battle against Roxanne and his first battle against Brawly, which happen four episodes apart. To be fair though, Ash loses hard against Brawly, and it takes him 11 episodes to beat him after that initial battle. Aside from his battle against Wattson (9 episodes after), the rest of AG's Gym Leaders took at least 11 episodes to get to. Frontier Brains are obviously different. Outside of AG, Ash's win against Lenora is followed by 7 episodes until he battles Burgh, ditto for Clay and Skyla, and Clemont and Valerie.
