This one is definitely not what Hippowdon is based on at all. But Hippowdons name uses the don suffix in both English and japanese, which is commonly used with Kaiju style monsters. It's also interesting that this hippo monster is known for blowing snot and that's sort of what Hippowdon does with sand? I'm thinking there's more to this like maybe some sort of yo-kai or Japanese cultural belief that hippos do a certain thing. Kind of like how they believe tapirs are tied to dreams via a yo-kai, and both tapir lines that we have are psychic types w dream powers
