Quite the opposite. These examples are awful pokemon because their base forms are great designs but these evolutions do not iterate on their base form very much. They're barely different.
And no, Magneton is not an example. That's great design too. It makes sense. The above examples are just shitty pokedex filler.
And that's not to say later generations didn't have such Pokemon either. It's one thing to criticise both as they should be more creative with their designs but to defend these shitty gen 1 Pokemon because they're gen 1 is just laughable.
