If anything, the dexcut has made evident how cumbersome that tradition is, given that Digimon never tried to do that and is never panned for it.
As for Masuda - well yeah, but he stepped down as a director after LGPE. And him not managing to fix GF's problems from the 3DS era until now doesn't contradict my point.
It's possible that when TPC didn't change their tune at all when GF was tasked to make Switch games after struggling so much on the 3DS, he realized it was time to go before... well, something like the Swoosh backlash happen.
