gen 1 and 2 really had a style but like what some anons said it was probably aping off of Toriyama to some extent it doesn't feel like the art evolved to be more of its own thing while keeping to those roots, and not everything new is bad, but some of the new pokemon just look so undefined reusing a lot of basic shapes, it feels like the style they have is just for appealing to masses but not because of any real artistic choice. That and what can made into a pokemon has become a little strange.
Like we have stalactites with snow on it, it looks like ice cream, concept it feels really weak but maybe you could make it work but the main issue for me at least is that they make way to on the nose like "how will they know it looks like ice cream?? Oh I know give it a fucking straw!" One pokemon just has an apple pie growing out of its back, some these pokemon feel like first drafts.
Snom and Golurk is based though so all is forgiven
