1. Gen 1 and 2 are glitchy as fuck and have remakes superior in every regard.
2. Crystal is the most modern of the GB/C era and does stuff the remakes do not which makes it a touch better then the rest.

4. Gen 5 on a whole is superb, no reason to rank the first set lower.
