I only just recently started collecting again - Pocket did a number on my and I learned the little octagon tins are actually terrible for keeping cards in so I dug mine out and got them into nicer boxes and started buying packs again. I was never a harcore collector even as a kid, I just inherited a binder back in the 00s from summer camp shenanigans and subsequently gave most of them away when I had my "fuck Pokemon" phase nearly every kid has, I think the last thing I got prior to ignoring the tcg for a while was a Serperior tin when the BW block was new-ish but it was more for the figure that came with it.
So fastfoward to like two months ago I start buying some packs here and there cause my wagie store sells them sometimes and the binder dex is my first real collection project but I'm not super picky about where the cards come from, its primarily just made from stuff I already had and stuff I get from packs. if I get multiple variants of a mon I pick the one with the art I like the most but I'm not gonna hunt down singles for mons until I get to like <100 mons left which will probably overlap with mons like UBs that had very few cards in their block. I'm takign the opportunity to also look into actually playing the tcg just so the bulk I get from consooming packs can do more than just sit in a box.
Once I get a dedicated favourites/FA binder I'd probably curate that a little more than this.
Also I went with a deranged layout of treating the binder as an 8x3 spread, the very front and very back pages just have etb sleeves in them for the art
