>>54885107For my new additions, there is huge variance in how good my butterfree can be. Caterpie on route 20 have a lvl of 11 - 14, and butterfree learns confusion at 13 and sleep powder at 15. Caterpie with shield dust become butterfree with compiund eyes, and caterpie with run away become butterfree with tinted lens. I obviously want a lvl 11 caterpie with shield dust, but have no way to force that. I get quite lucky and draw a lvl 13 with shield dust and jolly nature. My lvl 11 female wurmple becomes a beautifly with rivalry, excellent for roxie. Drayano generously gave beautifly 120 spatk, though dustox also has some potential as the only mon available with a defense stat. My beedrill gets swarm, probably inferior to adaptability, and his use vs roxie is limited by having no good attacks. Whirlipede is also a bit lacking in attacks, but has some interesting options with coil, iron defense, screech, and rollout. I decide on coil, bite, rollout, and protect. Surskit doesnt evolve until 22, so hes a shitmon without overleveling. Kricketune stays in the party and surskit gets benched for the gym.
One concern of mine is that I have been shamefully resetting fights against junior trainers as well, with the aggregate impact being I am not losing any pokemon to minor fights I was not prepared for or got unlucky on, which is not realistic for a full nuzlocke playthrough, and with how badly i bleed pokemon against gym leaders I am not sure I have enough substitutes available for attrition outside of major fights too.
Getting to roxie involved one scary fight: the complex worker with the fire types, including a growlithe with agility and a slugma with ancient power that my sub-21 butterfree could not fight safely.
Anyway, onto roxie.
