The soaring mechanic was actually pretty good. Compared to Insurgence's, it actually functions quite well. It doesn't look like shit, but that's mainly because Insurgence's was a shitty 3D type of map, which really didn't work well at all.

The pacing of the game is shit. You're constantly pulled back and forth from the tournament city, constantly have to backtrack through routes, sometimes multiple times.
HMs being completely optional (outside of surf) is really weird. You're never given any of the others via story, I assume you have to talk to Random NPC in middle of fucking nowhere town to get access to strength, rather than have the game just hand it to you wherever.
The encounter rate autism is some of the worst I've seen since Soulstones 2, and at least that trashfire had a magnetic lure. Every single fucking route has 2 1%, 4%, and 5% encounters, and it's fucking terrible.
Exp gain is bad. You're basically guided into just using earlygame shit unless you want to spend however long grinding up a lv. 20 wild mon when you're supposed to be in your high 30-low 40s.
