>>53604373>pokemon leveling upThat's the neat part! They don't. Instead of leveling up individual Pokemon and adding hours of bookkeeping, PTA ties Pokemon stats to the player character's Class level. You can give them vitamin boosters to increase a stat twice, natures add +1 and -1, and then there are all the passives like Swords Dance and Calm Mind that can be TM'd or bred onto a mon. Evolutions are earned at dramatic moments, after a tough fight, beating up a Chansey, or whenever the GM feels like giving it to you.
>but then it relys on struggleThat's the other neat part! They don't. Evolving gives better stats and access to new moves but does not lock you out of previous known moves. To alleviate the narrow PP budget in PTA, a mon can have up to six attacks, and you pick and choose which ones to keep when a mon evolves. Raichu still has at-will Quick Attack, but Pikachu won't have Thunderbolt unless you use a TM on it. Stat-boosting moves do not count as attacks, they're instead passive abilities that are overwritten by other stat-boosters.
In a hypothetical, a Pokemon that learns Howl will always have the benefit of the +1 attack until you teach it Swords Dance, then the +1 becomes +2. If a Pokemon with Howl learns Bulk Up, Howl gets replaced by Bulk Up and it gains +1 Defense on top of the +1 Attack. You cannot have Howl and Swords Dance for a +3, and you cannot have Howl and Bulk Up for a +2 & +1.
This is of course flavored by the mon in question always howling upon entering the field, channeling its warrior spirit, tensing its muscles, etc.
