None of the game mechanic stuff exists in the realistic battles of the anime. We learned this in season 1 with the simulator that's just like the games.

They even had a simulator that was exactly like the games, and some kid who was confident his Weepinbell could beat Misty's Starmie because that's what happened in the simulator, but then he lost in a real battle.
