i'm the OP. i just wait for a difficulty mod to come out.
it solves the problem, but i still think it's ridiculous that the fan base has to go out of their way to adjust the difficulty because game freak refuses to do it themselves. even something like the B2W2 challenge mode is much more palatable but they're never doing that again.
