Look I'm bad at getting my thoughts out sensibly without 500 words of essay beating around the bush to somehow soften my opinions. I might have suggested a possible maneating merman and a whole system of restraining monsterboys but I couldn't just say the simple thing: the heavily implied danger is both a great source of conflict and a pretty hot excuse for close encounters. Animalistic/predatory behaviour = all the pinning, sniffing, and prowling.
