You know this is the best answer.
Story in Pokemon is a meme. It gets a "1" because not having a story is asinine, but having a "minimal" story isn't necessarily a bad thing. We could very well go back to "I want to become the champion, complete the Pokedex, and also stop some bad guys sometimes", and nothing of value would be lost. No stupid narrative and no crazy "10 year old saves the universe" gary-stu bullshit. The best part? Less meaningless dialogue interruptions. In fact, having less story is a PRO for Pokemon games.
Postgame isn't worth anything. Just put all of the worthwhile content in the main game and balance the game's progression around that. Battle Frontier was shit; the gimmick battles were dumb. Settle for your standard CPU battles in the Maison/Tree/Whatever or man up and play Online.
