>>51106791The evolutions aren't necessarily tied to each other, most Digimon can become most other Digimon, even that image is just fan lines instead of canon charts. In my opinion it helps every design stand out since they don't have to be based on any existing design, whereas most Pokemon evo lines boil down to "this design but more diluted" and "this design but more concentrated" and some evo levels are basically forgotten stepping stones rather than a focus design someone would want to latch onto.
>>51106813>There's literally no reason any given Digimon can be someone's favorite but any given Pokemon cannot.There is though, each Pokemon gen has to adhere to a set formula of starters/early bird/early rat/pikachu clone/legendaries/filler etc which results in tons of designs that exist because they have to exist, rather than because someone on the art team thought they'd be cool. The intent and mindset when it comes to creating Pokemon is totally different and it results in lots of throwaway designs, whereas Digimon have no quotas and the artists have more freedom which results in more passionate and memorable designs.
