Gen 1: I still believe this is the best balanced assortments of mons. Best boy Blue is also from this gen.
Gen 2: Best atmosphere, and single player experience imo. Also best lore.
Gen 3: Best side games. I loved how experimental this gen was with ideas. Pokemon also starting feeling more robust as a franchise. Pokemania died down, and there were worries the franchise would die away. Gen 3 was the one that proved it had lasting power.
Gen 4: Best competitive lifespan. I played the shit nonstop. Also the most difficult games, imo.
Gen 5: Best music and feels. It's clear Gamefreak wanted to make an attempt at telling a narrative. It wasn't perfect, but I think they managed to nail some key character moments.
Gen 6: Best region design. I loved Kalos as a region because It lived up to its theme of beauty.
Gen 7: Best overall cast of characters. Everyone feels like a fleshed out character with history. While I have my gripes with the story, the characters feel the most well constructed overall.
