So, I finally finished a play-through of Pokemon Emerald. Time for an honest-to-Arceus unbiased opinion of Gen 3.
>Story
Much more going on than Gens 1 & 2. Much less going on than 4 & 5 it seems. Doesn't take away the fact that it's mostly a breath of fresh air. I like the way you side with certain teams and they accept your help, then want to kick your ass later. The legendaries were a solid B. The mascot legendaries are awesome, the Regi golems are pretty damn cool too. Just prefer how the legendary dogs in Gen 2 were more incorporated in the story.
>Gameplay
Gameplay is nice and quick, unlike Gen IV where the HP bar draining speed is super cringe-worthy. Had many improvements over Gen 2 for sure, such as abilities obviously. I did not like one portion of the game where I had no frickin clue where I was headed. After sailing to Slateport I believe, you cut through 3 towns in the matter of an hour and it feels empty, rushed... confusing. Usually you have a town with a gym, a cave, beach/water to explore, then the next town. This was route after route after route at some points, so that was frustrating.
>Pokemon
The designs overall were pretty decent. Found some of my new favorites (Sableye, Zigzagoon..) However, from Gen 1 to Gen 3, there's still a very limited amount of Fire and Electric Pokemon. Grass as well.. Either the Pokemon is weak as hell, has a horrible movepool, or is hideous. Restarted my game more than halfway through just to redo my whole party. Cause Vulpix/Ninetails is super limited, and I didn't feel like grinding for 15 levels just for her to catch up with my team. So, all in all, decent designs, still limited choices. Tons of cool water Pokemon however.
>Music
Intolerable honestly
>Final score
8.5/10
Because
>I love Pokemon, and this doesn't stray far from the tried and true formula
>Sableye is a top 10 bro
>Produced a challenge for me, and kept me interested throughout pretty much the whole playthrough
Favorite Gens in order
