"Diagnostics."
The small electronic device connected to her armor beeped, beginning its scan, checking the integrity of the shielding, the charge and stability of the power cells, the resistance of the cables that controlled the flow of the energy.
"POWER CELLS NEARING MAXIMUM CAPACITY. DISCHARGING IS RECOMMENDED."
"Report power output rate."
"OUTPUT IS THIRTY PERCENT HIGHER THAN NORMAL."
Rika frowned.
"Set reminder to discharge excess power, in sixty minutes. Silence all other notifications until then."
"REMINDER SET."
Emotional stress. While the extra output was useful in the heat of a battle, its instability made it difficult to safely store in the power cells. But what was causing it this time? Everything had been going smoothly the past few months, her grasp on modern technology greatly increasing, allowing her to create her new diagnostics program, which had yet to let her down in any way.
She snatched a pair of goggles off the corner of her workbench and pulled them on over her glasses. Looking down at herself and flipping a switch, she was presented with a view of the electrical signals from her brain through the network of nerves. She flipped another switch, those vanished, replaced with the chaotic image of the magical energies coursing through her body, following much more loosely defined pathways. The cables running under her lab coat overlapped that, the same energy running through them, but in a highly controlled fashion. Rika switched off the goggles and pulled them off, letting them rest on her head as she paced her lab, wondering what her next focus would be.
Her mind wandered, thoughts disorganized and chaotic. For now she silenced the ones coming from her emotions, pushing them to the back of her mind.
Rika slammed her book shut. Her Bellossom jumped, before settling back down on some haphazardly stacked papers.
"Ah, sorry about that, Hydroponic," she said quietly, giving the delta species Bellossom a pat on the head.
