If GO never existed the games would have the same level of quality as maybe Gen 6, slightly worse but way better than they are now, and normal people would have never noticed. For instance, LGPE wouldn't exist and SS wouldn't have the DexCut, and normal would people would still say/ridicule, "Wow. You still play Pokémon...?" Never forget that being into Pokémon not too long ago was social suicide.
Come to think of it, the Detective Pikachu movie wouldn't exist either.
Once normal people become interested in something the creators of it don't have to try anymore because they have the narrow minded sheep in the palm of their hands.
So no, it's not, "Suddenly have standards now." it's, "Normal people never noticed the opinions of real fans until now."
