Mitosis basically is just a process where by 1 cell becomes 2 cells, the daughter cells are basically clones of the originally. To wit, they are not additional, they are duplications of the same cell. When that cell is cancerous the malfunction is duplicated so you have 1 cell rapidly turning to 2, then 4, then 8, then 16, ect until basically you got a massive tumor in short order.
