The game was delayed yet the sprites can be really odd (although there's only a few that are truly bad) and also feels like Gamefreak did not bother to playtest the game. People do not know what they're talking about when they say that Gen IV is worse from Gen III because of the framerate, which is true but not in the way that one might think. The game still has smooth animations, but this is at the cost of them taking longer to finish due to the framerate being lower. This really shows up with the HP bar because Gamefreak did not want the scrolling to feel choppy, and also shows up with some overworld actions. There's also a delay for most battle actions in the game too which makes it a mess to try and go through it all. The soundtrack is amazing though.
Platinum fixed a lot of these issues and made Sinnoh go from a snoozefest to a well-made region. I absolutely LOVE Platinum. DP was not what Sinnoh deserved, but Platinum went and fixed that. I don't know why it took Gamefreak until a third version to finally iron out the region when the first set were already delayed, but whatever.
