just beat Roark. I had to go with Geodude as I have no water or grass type yet. in a slightly hesitant decision, I decided to teach Geodude Rock Smash so it could have an easier time with the trainers in Oreburgh Mine and Oreburgh Gym. I made the right call because even with all that EXP, Geodude is only Lv. 14 and still hasn't learned Magnitude. I typically solo the early game with Chimchar and use Mach Punch to destroy everything but I caught a Shinx with Intimidate and I'm giving Starly a chance, so Chimchar was at a significantly lower level. also I called an Onix and named her Nix :3
