I used to care about the hate back in 2011, but I haven't since. It also helps that outside of this shithole, my gen is well regarded nowadays. So the narrative here falls flat, especially since I know people are only saying bad things for reactions. So here's how I handle it:
1. If it's obviously made to insult people or the gen itself(ex: Gen 5 is shit! Unovaborts are the worst, kek!), I'll ignore it because it's clear to me that they want seething reactions. Same thing with bad faith actors who post disingenuous images as arguments like the Kalos v Unova images.
2. If it's genuine gameplay discussion, then I'll respond with my opinions. I like Gen 5, but I'm not biased enough to say that it's flawless gameplay-wise. But if it devolves into blatant gen war baiting, then I'll leave. I'll know that at that point, the replier is just taking a piss and it's a waste of time to respond to them further.
The problem is that I can't control oblivious Gen 5 fans responding to obivous bait. I can say that it's falseflagging shitposters, but then I'll look like a seething schizo and thus, fueling the shitposting even more. I don't even mention discord at all. The best thing I can do is to just ignore Unova threads in general but even then, there's that one obnoxious shitposter who needs to bring up Gen 5 in every single thread, regardless if it's even on-topic or not. By the end of the day, I move on and sleep well at night.
