People are so emotionally invested in it, in the memories and the connections they make with /your guys/ that trying to look at objectively is almost pointless. I had a great time playing through Brilliant Diamond because Gen IV was my favorite as a kid, even though it's objectively not that great. Gen 8 has issues, sure, but if you have positive associations with it you can make arguments about how it paved the way for future 3d pokemon games or whatever. Truth be told all the games are scuffed to a greater or lesser degree, Gamefreak are not very good at actually making games. People just like Pokemon.
