Emerald and Platinum were the redemption arcs, but the fact of the matter is that if the regions/games were good in the first place, they wouldn't have to release third versions as the "definitive" editions after beta testing the original versions on kids. The third versions would have just been like Yellow and Crystal (and Blue in Japan), which were the same games as RB and GS with a few bonus features and the Suicune subplot in Crystal. Case in point, no one considers Yellow or Crystal the "must play" games out of those generations aside from the improved sprites. People were massively butthurt that GF didn't include features from Emerald and Platinum in ORAS and BDSP respectively, because everyone knows Emerald and Platinum are the only versions of those games worth playing. For all the criticisms I have of Gens 5-8, at least GF is releasing the "real" version of the games first rather than shitting out rushed, half-assed games that require a third version to fix all the mistakes.
