Here's something funny, Scylla is a sea monster half woman with the lower body composed of several dog heads with a long necks with which she catches sailors, well the Japanese did not like this element and redesigned her as an octopus woman.
Currently historians believe that the origin of Scylla is the observation of the silhouette of a colossal squid, which would explain the half similar to a female human torso with abundant hair or a dress and the multiple dog heads being the tentacles, these leaving "bite" marks on the hulls of ships and oars, being in reality marks of giant suction cups.
