>>54924274It's interesting when pokemon fans think of ways to improve on a mediocre game (Kalos and DP/BDSP come to mind) they always say "it needed a third game" or "they should've remade Platinum" instead of "the original should've been good in the first place" or "the game's concept was inherently flawed to begin with"
I don't think remakes are inheritly bad, and, to me, FRLG remaking Kanto and BDSP remaking Sinnoh are vastly different concepts. The clear goal in mind with FRLG was modernizing Kanto with Gen 3 mechanics, rewriting the entire game, removing the bugs, and expanding on the region - in short, getting rid of the flaws from its previous inception, something that was not entirely met in the other game remakes (especially BDSP).
That's not to say there aren't good ideas in remakes (Grand Underground, Aqua & Magma plot), but it doesn't entirely "fix" the games vs. the standards FRLG set.
As for XY, it's fun to imagine how throwing in Zygarde in a similar vein to Rayquaza or Giratina would affect XY, but I don't think it would change much or be really necessary for the game's quality.
Emerald made RS's plot more coherent.
Platinum pretty much fixed every shitty part of DP.
By Gen 5, the concept of the "third game" was pretty much put to sleep since BW's story was complete on inception, which is why B2W2 exists as a suquel and XY never got Z. For some reason, XY followed standards set by Gen 3 & 4 originals, which GF learned from with XY's reception and never did again.
SM, SWSH, and SV's stories are all complete within the base game - though DLC's exist for the latter two, and USUM was panned for making Alola worse.
