After becoming champion, you gain access to a cave hidden within the forest of Melemele. The hike through the twisting, winding path is a struggle, filled with strong Pokemon and competent trainers, but when you finally reach the exit, you are greeted by the shining sun and a beach of coarse, black sand. It's quiet, with the only sounds being the waves soft lapping against the shore and the low clacking of Krabby claws.
An old shack, with a faded coat of pink paint, lies on the western coast. It appears to be rundown and empty, but you can see movement behind its ocean-blue curtains. You knock on the door and an old man opens it in response. A clean, bald head and long, white beard grace his face. His skin is tanned, almost leathery from years, maybe even decades, of life under the sun. His most noticeable feature, however, is the big smile on his face. Visitors to this part of the island are rare, and it's been a while since he had company.
The man tells you stories of his youth, how he surfed the largest waves of Alola and swam through the depths of the ocean floor. He has a favor to ask of you though, and it involves his diving buddy, a Lanturn. While he is too old to go beneath the ocean's surface again, his Lanturn still has a lot of life in it. The old man wants you to take the Lanturn out to sea, to explore the mysteries of the ocean floor. It's not right for it to stay at home while it's still so young.
Without hesitation, you accept.
