I was around 10 years old for Pokémania. My parents thought it was the next Beanie Babies craze (from the mid-90s) and mostly put up with it for the same reason they liked Beanie Babies: Pokémon cards/toys made for cheap and easy gifts for us kids, and merch was everywhere and essentially unlimited in variety.
