I would say if someone is attacking the artist it's the same as attacking the art (in the sake of pokemon anyway). They just didn't think it was good. Either way, they didn't like the card. Looking back on your original post I have to say that it's just a stock image of Darkrai by Sugimori. Nothing special and most would ignore it. I wouldn't give it a second glance even though I don't particularly hate Sugimori's work, he's done much better than stock pngs on a random background.
