I guess torchic/treecko. I'm biased because that's my favorite pairing i've used, as well as two starters from my favorite starter trio, but I feel like they gel really well together. Can imagine Torchic being the overexcited little girl who's just happy to be a pokemon while treecko is the level-headed teenager trying really hard to look cool but breaking down and being a total sweetheart in her presence.

if it has good music, little details that reinforce the worldbuilding and add to immersion, and gameplay that's good enough not to frequently frustrate, it'd fit the definition
if I'm riding into a town, I wanna be able to enter a house and talk to someone to hear about how the local economy works. I want to be surprised by something cute like Shuckle's juice thing in gen 2. I wanna feel like i'm either in the world or a trance due to how much I'm liking the experience. Hard to quantify, and it's still ultimately subjective, but meh
