They should have kept the OG Trio(Layton, Luke and Flora) and made a proper long running anime, more crossovers, different genre games, etc. Yokai Watch was really something they shouldn't have bet on, it's too childish to have anime-esque appeal(compared to even Gen 1 Pokemon/Digimon which could get serious at times) and too culturally Japanese to appeal to the children normie crowd.
