I'm a boomer, but I have tons of fond memories being 6 or 7 years old when Red and Blue were at their peak, right before the release of Yellow. Me and all the neighborhood kids were obsessed. We all had baseballs with one half covered in red paint or crayon. We'd go in the woods and pretend we were on a big Pokémon adventure. It was such a cool group of kids, nobody pretended they had a level 100 Mewtwo, we all had "realistic" teams and we all had our own niche we'd battle pretend trainers with on our travels, and catch new Pokémon.
I remember one of the older kids showing me how to catch my first Pokémon, a rattata. He ended up dying in a car crash when we were all in high school. On my Platinum card, I still have a shiny Rattata named "Cody" in his memory.
I have memories from that time just sitting in the grass in my front yard, by myself in the summer sun, playing Red on my lime green Gameboy. We had a big birch tree in the front yard, and the little leaves sounded like light rolling waves in the breeze.
I haven't really played Pokémon for a few gens for lots of reasons. I do hope the series evolves a bit, my inner child would love a more modern adventure aimed a bit more towards an older player base, but if they don't, I can't complain about them catering to kids--that's how they gave me so many happy memories. I hope those memories stick with me until the end.
