Most other members of the species stay in the ocean their entire lives, with the exception of laying females. I think it might occur in small numbers elsewhere, but it's strange to have such a large population doing it. Bringing it up since you mentioned turtle evolution.
I was kinda hoping for more than carracosta in Alola, but it seemingly handles sea turtles in general pretty well looking back at it. Kinda feel that lapras took the place of a sea turtle pokemon this gen though. Even if it isn't really a turtle.
