Every single kid said they could catch Mew under the truck and tried to prove it by using Gamesharks to put in Mew into their game. Schools didn't allow Pokemon once kids started beating each other up for each other's cards or stole them at school. I couldn't even draw Pokemon in class or I'd get in trouble. Basically, Pokemon as a CONCEPT was BANNED ENTIRELY. Most kids who weren't into video games yet got into it from Pokemon's popularity. It was a gateway into kids getting their first taste of what video games were back then, aside from Mario or Sonic who were the other giants at the time. I don't think anything that trends today will ever top the crazes of the 90's, I feel like people just don't have the attention span anymore to do that. They just move on to the next thing within a day or so.
