They could implement the ability to punch other trainers in the face, or pokemon abilities that affect other trainers like a pokemon with the ability to WOW THE CROWD. More stuff involving pokemon outside of combat too. Do away with HMs and require you to instead have a swiss army knife of pokemon with effects that assist with traversal outside, like only fully evolved large flying pokemon can use fly, etc.
