The berry would still just be in front of them so it could work. Not sure if it'd look good in the wild area though cause then they'd just be standing around chomping at air as if they're eating something.

Sure, it's cute and all, but it just drags things out after the hundreth time or so. Everyone jerks of BR for this stuff but they seem to be forgetting that game was kinda shit and took forever to play.
>sick animation for when afflicted by a status effectIt's not so much an animation as a different default face for most of them. Still certainly doable and doesn't interfere with anything.

Like, if you got those happy/sad animations after regular battles, it diminishes the effect of them in refresh.

>idle animations actually showing personalityI think that varies a lot on different pokemon. Some have really excellent in battle idles and some have pretty meh refresh idles.
