So I've been away from my tablet for a little bit, so the sketch/line requests I got last night I've only really started on now. This is the first.
>things I need to work on immediately
The first is line control, my lines are still wobbly. I've been practising drawing with my whole arm, but still end up only using my forearm and sometimes even my wrist for really really small details.
The next thing I need to work on is construction, despite doing my best to work in 3 dimensions the picture still feels flat. I think it's mostly a lack of weighted lines, which is another failing of my lineart and control.
The last thing is I need to incorporate my shading into my construction better. I need to plan my shades and highlights while still in my sketch phase so that I can see every shape and surface individually. It is also one of the things that will also help it feel less flat.
>things I'm still figuring out
Right now I'm trying to find the best tools for my lineart. This isn't actually a true traditional line art using the pen tool, it's a maximum opacity basic round black brush. I'd believed that that would help me more easily weigh my lines and improve my depth, but it just looks messy. I realized it's more likely my lack of control that's keeping out that depth and weight not the pen tool. It's also making my lines look messy and incomplete in general.
I also figured out I need to be more confident in my planning stage, this was meant to be a near overhead shot, but just looks crap because I wasn't confident enough and didn't put Camerupt on a robust enough angle. I also need to incorporate my shadows and perspective planning into the construction phase as well since I've been trying to figure it out after and it isn't working.
>things I improved on
Nothing in particular for this specific drawing, but I've learned a lot about my strengths and weaknesses.
I do think that I've improved on my speed however.
Critique absolutely welcome.
