There's a Misconception Online About What's Happening
https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/c0u2pq/theres_a_misconception_online_about_whats/I've been browsing the Internet for the last few days since the announcement for how people are reacting, and I'm scared to say that I don't think a lot of people don't accurately grasp what they're doing with SwSh.
More than a few people seem to think that you simply can't obtain certain Pokemon normally in-game and that people are just mad because they can't use the same old Pokemon that they've been using for years and years in this particular game. They don't seem to understand that they LITERALLY DON'T EXIST IN THE CODING OF SWORD AND SHIELD, and that's why people are mad. There are some people that are knowingly using this distortion of reality as a straw man to attack people who disagree with them about the decision, but, at least in my experience, most people (among those who don't know) genuinely think that this is what's happening.
I think we're all used to a restrictive Regional Dex by this point, and if some of our favorites just weren't available immediately without trading or transferring, we'd be fine with that, even if we couldn't get them until the postgame. It's a whole different ballgame when you literally, metaphysically cannot bring in your favorites EVEN AFTER BEATING THE GAME BECAUSE OF THE CODING ITSELF, and I think more people need to understand this fact. Even YouTubers like Hoopsandhiphop seem to be misunderstanding what's happening, and that's serving to spread the misconception even further.
This is why we, as fans, need to continue spreading the message accurately and concisely to people. Don't quiet down. Be polite, be respectful, but make fully clear the mistake that the devs made by making this decision and explain why it's a bad thing.
