My biggest problem with generation 3 was that it was such a huge step back.
gen 1 started it all and gen 2 was basically two games in one. There was just no way to top gold and silver. no matter what game freak did, people would hate gen 3.
Still I feel it could have been handled better, other then gameplay updates and graphics updates, they didn't add anything to these games to make them stand out. In a way it set a stranded for mediocrity.
I am by no means calling them bad games, I just felt they choose to take the series into a different direction that many people had trouble getting behind (even if it was the most logical step)
