>>38671815Ash is supposed to be the anime counterpart of Red, one of the world’s greatest Trainers, and he has the potential to be that great but never does anything with it because the writers force him to stagnate. Executives have actually gone on record to say that Ash isn’t allowed to succeed or the show would end. They’re more concerned with maintaining the status quo and promoting the games than actually telling a story, and the Kalos League made this painfully clear to almost everybody that witnessed it.
It was the perfect time for Ash to win; it was the 20th anniversary of the series, his relationship with his Greninja was supposedly the culmination of the theme of friendship the franchise had been building on for decades, and he was the most competent as a Trainer he had ever been since Hoenn & Sinnoh. But they threw away that perfect opportunity, and if he ever does win down the line (which he won’t) it will never feel authentic unless they manage to actually pull some decent writing out of their ass. And then he goes to Alola and for the first time in the show’s history, loses to fucking Team Rocket of all people.
