Everyone who had been around for the OS was still heavily invested in Pokeshipping at least until DP and BW made it obvious that Misty was never coming back as a main character. Also keep in mind that the Pokeshipping OC songs 4kids recorded would’ve had to be approved by the Japanese side of things. It’s unlikely that Japan would have approved Ash x May songs if May x Drew was always going to be canon.
