Pancham's evolution is based on a "banchou". In Japan, it's a term used to describe a delinquent, or the leader of a gang. They're often portrayed as the cool, lone wolf type, and naturally a skill in fistfighting is included with the stereotype. That's why Goronda has that cape-like extension on it's back; it's actually representative of a long black coat. Banchous are typically described as rugged and irritable, but have a sense of honor and loyalty.
