Even against something like Mewtwo or Mega Lati@s, Mega Banette only becomes "better" than Mega Gengar if you're fighting against an all psychic-type moveset, or you plan on being the bard of the party while your cohorts use Giratina-O (not Mega Gengar, since two people leading with them cover the entire party) and not Darkrai or Hydreigon.
Oh yeah, even then, if you wanted a better Pokémon for mega boosts than Mega Gengar, just use any dark-type mega, including Mega Sableye whenever that comes out. The only reason you would want to raise a Mega Banette is if you want a subpar Mega Gengar ready to go when your free evolution for Mega Gengar runs out, or you really love Banette like I do. I have over 200 Shuppet candy XL and I hope I'll be able to get all the candy I'll need by either walking my Banette to best buddy or by catching Shuppet during events or spotlight hours.
